Leta of The Nerdy Me

Getting started as a blogger can be a daunting task. Keeping it going once you’ve mustered up the effort to get it up and running can be even more daunting. Here Leta talks about her quest to come to that all-to-well-known “if x-person can do this, than what’s stopping me from trying?!’ realization, to using her motivation and inspiration to help others get the process going as well. Highlighting and cataloging her experiences with humor and sometimes coinciding poignancy that come with being a human in the world, Leta hits the nail on the head and stands apart from your average ‘lifestyle’ blogger. In addition, Leta also gives advice to fellow bloggers on how to be more efficient and successful.

Meet Leta

My name is Leta and I’m the blogger behind The Nerdy Me, a lifestyle blog with a focus on healthy, active and positive life. I blog about everything from my personal travels to tips on how to work in the most effective and productive way you can. I have worked with brands and companies such as StyleWe, Irresistible Me, Book Learn Pass and Hair Story. Recently, I released blog consulting services to help aspiring bloggers to reach their audiences and make their blog better in quality and content. By the way, I write funny list posts sometimes like 7 Types of People in Relationships (check it out!).

Q: How would you describe your blog to a person that has never visited it before?

I’d say it’s a lifestyle blog for all who want to live a happy, active and positive life. If you want to learn how to work in a productive way, how to improve your blog, get a bit of inspiration, motivation and a laugh once in a while, The Nerdy Me is the place for that. I tend to blog about everything, well except fashion and beauty which I know nothing about.

Q: What made you decide to create a blog?

I always loved writing and expressing myself and my ideas in writing. One day I was reading this self-help blog (I can’t remember the name right now), and I thought why not, you know? If this person can create a space on the Internet and express his ideas freely, why can’t I? So, I created a blog on Blogger and with much excitement wrote my first ever blog post. It was horrible to say the least. I literally talked about the weather. #BegginnerBloggerProblems.

Q: Was there a moment when you thought, “I could do this professionally”? If so, what triggered that desire/realization?

Yes, actually! Just a year or so ago, I had a moment while reading one of my favourite blogs, Kotryna Bass (you gotta check it out!), and I had a moment of realization that I could do this as well. I started searching for other bloggers who blog full-time and I fell in love with the idea of making a living out of something I really love and enjoy. So, I decided to give it a go and see if it was possible for me to blog professionally and maybe make a career out of it.

Q: What has been the biggest challenge in maintaining a successful blog?

Oh, I’m not sure if I can distinguish one. There are so many challenges when it comes to maintaining a blog, especially a successful one. I would say creating time or staying inspired and motivated. Blogging takes up a lot of time, there are so many things that go on behind the scenes. There is design, coding, writing content, taking photos, promoting, marketing and so on. It takes up a lot of time and I’ve found it hard at times to actually create time for blogging as I am a student and university can be very time consuming. On top of that, I struggled with finding inspiration and motivation to blog when I started. It can be very discouraging when you get very little views or no comments at all on the post that you worked so hard on. But it gets better once you get a hang of it and learn few techniques and strategies. I’m glad that I learned them and now I don’t find it as challenging as I did a year or so ago.

Q: What is your favorite post that you created? Why?

That’s a good question. I have to say 5 Things You Need To Know About Social Anxiety. I honestly was so passionate, and still am, about getting the word across about social anxiety. I have it myself and I know that there are a lot of people out there who have no clue what it is, how it affects a person and how serious it can be. I had a lovely response to this blog post and I think it’s my favourite because of it. I put my heart into it and I managed to reach a big audience with this post.

Q: How much does social media influence your writing? This might be a commentary on the posts you read or the way that you tailor your posts for those channels.

I wouldn’t say that social media influences my writing a lot. I don’t tend to write those ‘answer to blah blah blah video/post’ for instance, I don’t enjoy the idea of it, I guess. But I love getting ideas and inspiration from social media. I might see a tweet with a question of how to do something and I might get an idea for a blog post out of it.

Q: What is your favorite social media channel? Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, other? Why?

I honestly love Twitter. Twitter has a wonderful community and I like the way it links everyone from all over the world. Also, it’s my top traffic source, so what’s not to love? I also enjoy Instagram as I’m a visual person but recently with all the new algorithm things going on, I’m distancing myself a bit.

Q: Do you have any last piece of advice for aspiring bloggers?

I have a lot! But the best advice that I can give is to keep going. A lot of new bloggers simply give up after a month or so if they don’t get the results they want. But you need to understand that the best comes to those who work for it. So, don’t give up, work for it. Don’t compare your blog to others, always schedule time for learning something new, and invest in your blog and your knowledge about blogging.

Q: Lastly, what is something that you could share with us that we wouldn’t learn from reading your blog?

I honestly can’t think of anything. My blog is a real reflection of me. I literally listed all of my fears in one of the posts, I always try to keep my own voice and personality in the posts. I guess I share the majority of my life in it except for few tiny whiny personal details. Oh wait! I am studying New Media Language! That I didn’t share!
